My friend, Kevin, always says to me, “one miracle at a time.” To me that comment means to set a goal and then accomplish it. I don’t like his line. I like mine better, “look for miracles every day”. I am always looking for the miracles in my life. I call them Bershert, which means destiny in hebrew. It means that G-d has a plan for all of us. We just need to be on the look out for them and listen to them. I am always on the outlook for them. I find them everywhere.
I went into private practice because I ran into a former classmate who told me about a nation-wide test. When I called the place giving the test, they said that they were extending applications from two to three weeks because of the lack of response. With the extra week, I was able to turn in all of the required documents. Then I talked to a friend about the test, and he said that when I passed the test to let him know. He was the Clinical Director for a small clinic. Due to all of these small miracles I am now doing a job that I love. Was that not all Beshert?
Another place full of miracles is at work. I am a therapist. Usually, one gets direct client referrals. This means one person gives your name to another person. I have had many instances of having clients that are connected to each other and they have no idea that they are both seeing me. When I checked with other therapists about this phenomena, they said that they had never had it happen. By the way I work in a fairly large city. These are some of the miracles…. 1) twice I have had spouses, 2) one set of brothers at the same time, 3) father-in-law and daughter-in-law, 4) former father-in-law and son-in-law, and the most emotionally shocking was a father and daughter. The daughter is a long time client. One day, her father showed up on my schedule. Due to Hippa laws I could not ask either one of them for permission to see the father. But I knew that G-d had a plan for me. When I met the father, I asked him how he was directly referred to me? He said that he was seeing a therapist, who felt that he needed a new therapist. She said to him, “There is a therapist I want for you to go see. I do not know her personally and she does not know me. But I have heard good things about her.” And, yes, eventually the father and daughter discussed going to therapy and discovered that they were both seeing me and continued to do so.
Last summer I was thinking about going to a golf scramble. But the weather was going to be in the 90s and I was having second thoughts. I was thinking of all the things that I needed to do at home. Two of my friends happen to be in contact with me, and told me repeatedly to go to the golf outing. So, I gave in, and went. And met a man that I am still dating. I say their encouragement was Beshert!
About a month ago, I heard a wonderful speaker named Yitta Halberstam from Brooklyn, New York. She is the author of “Small Miracles- Extraordinary Coincidences from Everyday Life.”
I believe that many things that happen to me, happen for a reason. And the reason is the hand of G-d.
Do you have miracles that have happened in your life?
Everything does happen for a reason. I believe G-d’s hand is on everything and there is a purpose for what happens. There have been so many instances in my life that I have recognized miracles. The most recent has been a change in my business. I’ve changed companies because of something that the old company is doing that I don’t agree with. As soon as I decided to change, another oportuniy came my way, the same day, literally. I think G-d was showing me that. I truely see that G-d loves me and he definately has a plan for me. It is miraculous, if you just listen.
I am a firm believer in the existence of miracles, having seen examples in my own life. I have a brother alive today who, by all accounts, should be dead after being involved in a severe traffic accident at age 8. I also believe in the concept of destiny and having a reason for exisiting – though sometimes I wish the directives were a bit more clear, lol!
I agree, you have to look for miracles everyday. Just simple random acts of kindness or even a smile , could be what was needed for that person at that particular time. I think God uses people to get his message across to the person God wants to receive it. We are all used …True Bershert.

Enjoyed your thoughts on destiny and miracles. Nicely written. It’s been a while since you posted, glad to see you writing again. You always leave me thinking.
Oh dear, I am quite certain we are talking apples and oranges.
Indeed I do believe in miracles. However I do not look for miracles, I rely on them. There are miracles everywhere if you look for them. They are not the miracles that concern me.
I look at things when the they seem overwhelming. You look at things as they occur to you. I look at things from how I affect the world, others, and such. As such I have the possibility of being one of the miracles you believe and rely on.
Serendipity, miracles, joys, and hidden moments all are delights in life. However sooner or later there is a need for help, and a time for you to get your hands into the mess. That is when rather than be overwhelmed … work at it one miracle at a time.

We all have have miracles in our life, maybe some never stop to see, or appreciate it.
I believe with faith, prayer and maybe the luck of the Irish miracles do happen, It may not be the miracle you had prayed or hope for, it may just be a baby step that leads us to a better life, an awaking to ones self to truly enjoy the precious life that has been given to us for a short time.
Enjoy each day and others.
My first miracle occurred soon after my son died. I was in the bathroom sobbing so not to worry my other two children, when I found myself praying out loud. Although my plea wasn’t too loud, I spoke “G-d help me”. Within minutes, the phone rang, so I composed myself enough to answer it. Mind you, my husband had recently left me while I was attending my grandmothers funeral a week prior. Three months prior I had quit my supervisory position to appease my husbands wishes to be a stay at home mom. So I was childless, husbandless not to mention jobless at this critical time of mourning. On the other end of the line was Kelly Services wanting to know if I would accept a secretarial position at Faith Lutheran Church. This was a miracle to me because I never asked G-d for what I needed. Yet He took care of it all, a place in His home to work, a caring Pastor who also had lost his son to Sudden Infant Death Syndrome or SIDS and most importantly His loving family of worshipers.
Thank Jen what a beautiful story…thank you for sharing it!!!
An accumulation of small miracles, like a trace of snow on a moonlit night, combine to brighten my world. As she gets on in years, Hanna K Frankenstein increasingly needs to answer the call of nature at 4AM. Off she goes into the dark. When she returns in a few minutes with the fresh scent of the cool predawn atmosphere, I thank the great spirit for vectoring her away from the skunks of the night.
